Protecting Semi Truck Drivers
Studies show, higher cancer rates occur on the left side of the face and arm of commercial vehicle drivers. Truck drivers spend almost every day with their left side facing the sun. They’re not just driving for a couple of hours a day like the average commuter – days on end are spent soaking up sunlight. This is your mobile office! Our window films will help provide comfort, reduce glare, and protect you from harmful UV rays. Even when exposure doesn’t turn cancerous, UV rays can accelerate aging and wrinkles. The New England Journal of Medicine released a photograph of a retired truck driver with a condition known as unilateral dermatoheliosis. The left side of the man’s face was noticeably different from the right, with significant wrinkling, sagging and tissue damage. He had been a truck driver for 28 years.
To keep drivers healthy, the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) has amended safety regulations to allow certain clear UV blocking window tint and film on big rig windows. 3M Crystalline series is one of the highest recommended lines of film because of the significant UV and infrared rejection rate. Having crystalline on your vehicle is like wearing 1000 SPF.
Midwest Tinting is proud to offer a wide range of window tinting options, including clear, UV, and IR blocking tint, as mentioned by the IWFA. We urge any drivers that spend extended periods of time on the road, to install UV blocking window tint to reduce risk of skin cancer.
What is the DOT legal limit for window tinting on Semi Trucks?
As stated on the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) website, Coloring or tinting of windshields and windows: Coloring or tinting of windshields and the windows to the immediate right and left of the driver is allowed, provided the light transmittance through the colored or tinted glazing is not less than 70 percent light transmitted. The transmittance restriction does not apply to other windows behind the driver on the commercial motor vehicle.
What window tinting does Midwest Tinting offer in compliance with DOT regulations?
Rejects up to 87% of infrared rays
Blocks 49% of solar energy
Provides over 99% UV protection
